FANNY YU

Fanny Yu has been a prosecutor for over 15 years and is currently a Deputy District Attorney for the San Diego District Attorney’s Office in the Juvenile Division. Ms. Yu is an expert in the areas of Human Trafficking and Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children, Juvenile sex assault & DV laws, and WIC827 disclosure laws.  During her 13 years with the San Diego DA’s office Ms. Yu’s prior assignments included Sex Crimes & Human Trafficking, felony trial team in North County Division, and Superior Court handling preliminary hearings.  Ms. Yu is a trainer for CDAA and trains law enforcement agencies, Child Welfare Services, Dependency attorneys, victim advocacy groups, school district personnel, medical/health community on Human Trafficking and CSEC.  Ms. Yu is a member of the San Diego County Regional Human Trafficking and CSEC Advisory Council and the San Diego Police Foundation’s SafetyNet Advisory Council.  She received her JD in 2001 from Loyola Law School (Los Angeles) and her BA in 1998 from UCLA.

ROY LAI

Roy Lai is a Deputy District Attorney for the San Diego District Attorney’s Office.  He has been with his Office for the last 12 years and is currently assigned to the Economic Fraud Division where he prosecuting complex frauds cases.   Prior to this assignment, Mr. Lai has worked in his Office’s Juvenile Division, Superior Court Division, Family Protection, and Major Violator’s Unit.  Mr. Lai grew up in Los Angeles and earned his undergraduate degree in Molecular Cell Biology from the University of California, Berkeley.   After working two years doing colon cancer research for UCSF in conjunction with the VA Hospital, he went back to school and earned his J.D. from Loyola Law School, Los Angeles in 2003.  He also served on the Board for the San Diego District Attorney’s Association.

ERIC TRAN

Eric Tran is a Deputy District Attorney for the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office.  Mr. Tran is currently assigned to the South Bay Division where he handles a myriad of criminal cases.  For his undergraduate career, Mr. Tran attended the University of California, Berkeley.  Mr. Tran graduated with high honors and distinction in general scholarship in Legal Studies and Asian American Studies.  Mr. Tran then earned his juris doctor from the University of California, Los Angeles.  While at UCLA Law, Mr. Tran served as the Co-Chair of the Asian Pacific Islander Student Association and as a Managing Editor of the Asian Pacific American Law Journal.  Prior to working for the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office, Mr. Tran clerked for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office and the Honorable Saundra B. Armstrong of the United States District Court, Northern District.

Brandon Kimura is an Assistant United States Attorney for the Southern District of California, San Diego, and has been with the office since December 2011.  He is assigned to the Criminal Division – Reactive Crimes Section, where he mainly prosecutes border-related crimes, including alien smuggling and importation of controlled substances.  Prior to joining the U.S. Department of Justice, Mr. Kimura was an associate at Cooley LLP in Palo Alto, California.  As an associate, Mr. Kimura was assigned to the Complex Commercial Litigation Department, where he worked on securities, contract, and white-collar criminal cases.  Mr. Kimura graduated with honors from both the University of Hawaii and Santa Clara University Law School.

MELISSA OCAMPO

Melissa Ocampo is a Deputy District Attorney for the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office.  She is currently assigned to the North County Division where she handles general trials, graffiti cases, and “Crimes Against Peace Officer” (CAPO) cases.  Ms. Ocampo was born and raised in San Diego.  She earned her undergraduate degree in Political Science from the University of CA, Irvine in 2008, and then returned to San Diego where she earned her JD from California Western School of Law in 2011.  Prior to working for the DA’s Office, Ms. Ocampo also law clerked for the offices of San Diego City Attorney, California Attorney General, and San Diego Alternate Public Defender.

STACY TYLER

Stacy Tyler is a career prosecutor with the California Department of Justice.  Ms. Tyler graduated with a BA from UC Berkeley in 1998 and received her JD from Hastings College of the Law in 2001.  During law school, she clerked for the Organized Crime Division of the U.S. Attorney’s Las Vegas Office.  Upon graduation, she became a Graduate Legal Assistant with the Office of the Attorney General and has remained with the office since.  As a Deputy Attorney General, Ms. Tyler handles felony criminal appeals and writ petitions in the state and federal courts.  She has argued before the California Supreme Court and has tried several felony cases in superior court.  As the head of the law clerk team at the Attorney General's Office, she enjoyed the opportunity to mentor budding Asian prosecutors, and found it one of the most rewarding aspects of her career.  Ms. Tyler is married with two beautiful children who speak Chinese and Japanese, as well as English and Italian.

MARK T. CUMBA

Mark Cumba began his legal career as a Cook County State’s Attorney in Chicago where he prosecuted cases in the Criminal Prosecutions Bureau, Juvenile Justice Bureau, Narcotics Prosecutions Bureau and Public Interest Bureau.  After 11 years in private practice litigating high-exposure civil matters, Mr. Cumba returned to public service joining the California Department of Justice, Office of the Attorney General.  As a Deputy Attorney General, Mr. Cumba is assigned to the Bureau of Medi-Cal Fraud and Elder Abuse where he represents the State of California in investigating and prosecuting companies and individuals for illegally abusing the Medicare/Medi-Cal programs as well as residential care facilities, skilled nursing facilities, caretakers and other individuals for abusing or neglecting California's elderly and dependent adult citizens.  Mr. Cumba has been a board member of Filipino American Lawyers of San Diego since 2010, is a current appointed member of the Commission on Judicial Nominees Evaluation where he assists the governor in the judicial selection process, and is an adjunct faculty member at Thomas Jefferson School of Law where he coaches the mock trial team.

Connie Wu is an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Criminal Division of the Southern District of California, San Diego.  Before becoming a prosecutor, Connie worked in Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom’s New York office as a Government Enforcement & White Collar Crime Associate.  She received her B.A. in Political Science from Brown University and her J.D. from Harvard Law School.  Over the years, Connie has interned or clerked for Alhambra Superior Court Judge Jaime Corral, U.S. Ninth Circuit Judge Alex Kozinski, U.S. District Judge Richard Stearns, the Sex Crimes Division of the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office, the Drug Task Force of the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Massachusetts, and the Counterterrorism Section of the Department of Justice.  Connie has wanted to become a prosecutor since she was a teen and is happy to be living the dream.

JOSEPH WHANG

Deputy District Attorney Joseph Whang has worked in the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office since November 2012. He is currently assigned to the East County branch as the vertical prosecution deputy for identity theft and insurance fraud cases. Mr. Whang received his bachelor’s degree from UCSD and his juris doctorate at Loyola Law School. Prior to being hired as a deputy district attorney for the San Diego District Attorney’s Office, Mr. Whang worked as Graduate Law Clerk with the same office from 2010-2011 and as a deputy district attorney in Fresno County from 2011-2012.

Justine Santiago is currently a Deputy District Attorney for the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office.  Ms. Santiago started with the D.A.’s Office in August of 2013 and has served in the North County, East County, and Juvenile Branches handling general channel crimes.  She is currently assigned to the Family Protection Division where she primarily prosecutes felony domestic violence, elder abuse, and child abuse cases.  Prior to working for the D.A.’s Office in San Diego, Ms. Santiago also served as a law clerk for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office and the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office.  She earned her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of California, Los Angeles, and went on to graduate with her law degree from Loyola Law School, Los Angeles.

MICHAEL YUN

Michael Yun is a Deputy Attorney General for the California Attorney General’s Office.  He is currently in the Health Quality Enforcement section where he carries out administrative prosecution of healthcare professionals who commit offenses including diverting controlled substances, sexual assault on patients, child molestation, and gross medical negligence.  Prior to being a Deputy Attorney General, Mr. Yun was a Deputy District Attorney for the Tulare County District Attorney’s Office in Central Valley where he did criminal prosecution of felonies and misdemeanors.  He received his undergraduate degrees from the University of Southern California and his law degree from UC Davis School of Law.  Prior to becoming a prosecutor, Mr. Yun clerked for Santa Clara County DA’s Office, Orange County DA’s Office, and Sacramento County DA’s Office.

ALASTAIR J. AGCAOILI

Alastair Agcaoili is a Deputy Attorney General in the Appeals, Writs & Trials Section of the California Attorney General’s Office.  In this position, he has handled a broad range of criminal matters in both state and federal appellate courts, including the California Court of Appeal, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, and the California Supreme Court.  In 2016, he served as a Supreme Court Fellow with the National Association of Attorneys General in Washington, DC, in which capacity he provided strategic assistance to various State Solicitor Generals’ Offices in their cases before the U.S. Supreme Court.  Prior to joining the California Attorney General’s Office, Mr. Agcaoili was an associate at Caldwell Leslie & Proctor in Los Angeles, CA, and Debevoise & Plimpton in New York, NY.  He also clerked on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.  He is a graduate of Brown University and the University of Pennsylvania Law School.  Mr. Agcaoili is active in the San Diego legal community and is currently an Associate with the San Diego Appellate Inn of Court, and the Vice President of the Filipino American Lawyers of San Diego.
